Bees, Honey & Candle Making

Andrew Watkins has been a Beekeeper for many years & now has around 11 hives on the estate of Moor Farm. His bees produce glorious honey which Andrew & his wife Mya use in various products & crafts including flavoured honey, mead & candles as well as other homemade offerings.

Our Fine Experience takes place at Gorse Retreat & Moor Farm Lodge where the bees pollinate the gardens & grounds & the honey from the bees is used in the day to day catering at the Retreat & also available as gifts & products to purchase.

Gorse Retreat & Moor Farm Lodge offers 'A Fine Experience' to guests staying at the properties or private booking for events or occasions. Visitors attending will enjoy a relaxed learning experience suitable for all ages with our BeeKeeper Andrew Watkins who will talk them through the important but fun aspects of bees. Visitors experience & learn about our bees life cycle, habits & how important they are to our own lives. Guests also have the privilege to see the bees in action via the viewing hive as well as an opportunity to taste some of the honey produced & learn how to make wax products such as candle rolling.

Andrew has a Masters in Bee Keeping & is an experienced lecturer on the subject, his passion & devotion flows through his experiences & our visitors leave having been educated in a fun & friendly way.

The experience may take place indoors or out subject to weather conditions & lasts for a couple of hours or so, but there is always time for questions as Andrew thoroughly enjoys testing his knowledge & talking about his bees. Everything that visitors may need to obtain the most from their experience will be provided. Though it is recommended to have the appropriate clothing for an outside experience & comfortable footwear.
